Williams County Commissioners seek to extend County Sales Tax

WILLISTON, N.D. (February 7, 2024): During the February 6, 2024, regular Williams County Board of County Commissioners meeting, Commissioners unanimously agreed to place a ballot measure for the extension of the County sales tax on the June 2024 Primary Election ballot. The current Williams County 1% Public Safety Sales Tax, which has been collected since 2015, is set to expire on March 31, 2025. Revenue from the sales tax is split 50/50 between the City of Williston and Williams County. Funds are used towards capital and operating costs for 18 public safety agencies as well as behavioral health services.

Commissioners plan to continue discussing potential purposes and uses of a future phase of the sales tax at their next regular meeting on February 20, 2024. During the February 6 meeting, Commissioners identified public safety, behavioral and rural health, and countywide projects that relate to quality of life as potential priorities for the County’s share of the sales tax revenue.
