Kota Ray Dam reopens Memorial Day weekend; Blacktail Dam and Kota Ray Dam camping reservations go online May 19

WILLISTON, N.D., (May 5, 2025) – Progress from the implementing the Williams County Parks Master Plan is bringing exciting changes to local campgrounds.

Kota Ray Dam, closed since last spring, reopens on Friday, May 23, 2025. The final phases of work are underway on new features such as a youth pedal park, reconfigured campsites, and modern comfort stations. The revamped park also boasts a new lakeside lawn-chair amphitheater that will host events later this summer. Online reservations for the new campsites will open on May 19, 2025, at 8:30 am, for dates between May 23 and October 31, 2025.

Construction for upgrades and enhancements at Blacktail Dam begin mid-May and are expected to continue throughout 2026. New amenities include walking trails, upgraded comfort stations, group campsites, and more. During construction, the park will remain open in a limited capacity for both camping and recreation. Visitors and residents will still be able to use the boat ramp, but the route to reach the ramp may change throughout the year. On-site signage will provide guidance as construction progresses. The playground, fish cleaning station, and shower house will not be available, but the Par 3 golf course will be fully open. Nine electric campsites will be open in the beach area and primitive campsites will be open on the north side of the park and near the park entrance. Online campsite reservations will open on May 19, 2025, at 8:30 am, for dates between May 23 and October 31, 2025.
