Williams County to Develop Roadway Safety Action Plan

WILLISTON, N.D. (May 8, 2025): The Williams County Highway Department is kicking off the development process for a countywide Roadway Safety Action Plan (RSAP). Funding for the plan comes from a grant through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Safe Streets and Roads 4 All (SS4A) Grant Program. The SS4A program aims to support local, regional, and tribal initiatives for preventing roadway fatalities and serious injuries.

During the month of May, the public can provide their input about county roadway safety via an online survey at http://wcsafetyplan.com. The survey is comprised of a few basic questions as well as a map for logging safety-related comments related to specific geographic locations. Additional opportunities for public engagement will be included in future phases of the plan’s development.

The RSAP is guided by an extensive literature review of transportation safety policies and plans at the local, state, and federal levels. These documents will help establish goals, objectives, and recommended actions that align with best practices in transportation safety planning. A draft action plan is expected to be completed by the end of July 2025, with final adoption by the end of January 2026.

Communication about the plan will be posted to the Williams County Highway Department webpage.
