Williams County Deputies apprehend man for assault and attempted murder

WILLISTON, N.D. (November 14, 2022) – On November 13, 2022, at approximately 12:43 am, Williams County Deputies and members of the Williston Police Department responded to a report of an assault with a knife at CHI St. Alexius Hospital in Williston. It was determined that a 15-year-old male had sustained a severe laceration to his throat and a 44-year-old man had sustained a laceration to his hand. The 15-year-old male was flown to a larger medical facility for his injuries and is currently recovering.

After the initial investigation, Deputies responded to Highway 1804 and 132nd Lane NW, where the incident occurred. Deputies and members of the North Dakota Highway Patrol canvassed the area and located the suspect, 40-year-old Casey Wayne Heller of Williston. The assailant was known to the victims.

Heller was arrested without incident and is currently being held at the Williams County Correctional Center on charges of Aggravated Assault (C Felony) and Attempted Murder (A Felony).

The investigation into this incident is ongoing and no additional information will be released at this time.
