Weed Spotlight:

PalmerAmaranth_UnitedSoybea.jpg
Palmer Amaranth is the country’s worst weed problem. It has become a problem in our neighboring states of South Dakota, Minnesota and Iowa. The North Dakota Weed Control Association is on high alert for this weed and has established a zero tolerance for Palmer amaranth. It has the potential to cause over a 90% reduction in corn yield and almost 80% in soybean yield. It is very aggressive, growing up to 3 inches a day and reaching up to 8 feet in height. In addition to being extremely prone to multiple modes of herbicide resistance, each plant can produce up to 1 million seeds, making the spread of this weed difficult to stop. If anyone sees this weed, alert the County Weed Control Officer immediately at 701-580-1628.
